- IE7 beta 3
-
Posted by oVan on Friday, June 30, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsInternet Explorer 7.0 Beta 3 is here for Windows XP, XP x64, and 2003. Find out about the new features--and, yes, there are a few new features--in Paul Thurrot's latest review!
Some things I've noticed while using it a little while:
* Popups are blocked on sites where I didn't expect it (e.g. while editing this message in Blogger, I couldn't use the Javascript prompts!?)
* A little animated icon appears at the bottom while checking the site for phishing. Maybe it was there in beta 2, but at least I didn't see it then.
* My local bank's website works again. Beta 2 broke all Java functionality with it, even installing the much dreaded Sun Java Plugin and/or JRE didn't help. Now it is fixed.
* Overall performance seems great, IE7 is a really speedy browser, easily beating FireFox which has become a real slow experience in their latest versions!

- Microsoft acquires iView
-
Posted by oVan on Tuesday, June 27, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsAnother day, another acquisition... Today iView Multimedia, who brought us MediaPro, has announced that it has 'joined' Microsoft. MediaPro is a fairly well known digital imaging workflow and management application which was originally created for Mac and later evolved to Windows. In the announcement on the iView website today Yan Calotychos, founder of iView, stated quite clearly that Mac support would continue and that the iView product range will continue to be available (and supported).

Posted by oVan on Monday, June 26, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsIn a brief statement Adobe has announced that it has purchased the 'technology assets' of Pixmantec, the Danish company behind the RawShooter raw workflow and conversion application. Adobe states that this acquisition "strengthens Adobe's leadership position in raw processing" and that that Pixmantec's raw processing technology will be integrated into Lightroom and other Adobe products. RawShooter Premium will be discontinued although the Essential edition will continue to be available and support for existing RawShooter customers will be available from Adobe.

- .NET Framework 3.0
-
Posted by oVan on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsHere's a beautiful new website about .NET Framework 3.0, short "NetFx3". From what I can see it is running on CommunityServer by Telligent.
Every part of NetFx3 has its own subdomain:
Windows Communication Foundation: wcf.netfx3.com,
Windows Presentation Foundation: wpf.netfx3.com,
Windows WorkFlow Foundation: wf.netfx3.com,
and finally Windows CardSpace: wcs.netfx3.com.
If you don't know what this all means, you'd better get started and catch up!
- FIX: Outlook 2007 beta 2 hangs with Attensa 1.2
-
Posted by oVan on Friday, June 09, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsTired of Outlook 2007 beta 2 frequently hangs on startup? And don't you find it strange that it almost immediately revives the moment you try to kill it?
This is the reason: AttensaEngine.exe
Just try it: open your Process Explorer (or Task Manager) and kill AttensaEngine.exe, you'll see Outlook come back to live. Unfortunately at that point it is still unstable, opening a single message will crash it.
Here's the solution:
1) Disable Attensa by going to the menu "Tools | Trust Center | Add-Ins" then click on "Manage COM Add-Ins" and remove the check box before "Attensa for Outlook".
2) Import your Attensa.opml file via the menu "File | Import and Export", then choose "Import RSS Subscriptions from an OPML file". (You did export your Attensa list to an opml-file, right?)
Hope this helps!
- FIX: Outlook 2007 beta 2, WDS 3.0 beta and Default Profile
-
Posted by oVan on Tuesday, June 06, 2006 | PermaLink | 0 commentsHave you also seen this error message when you have installed Windows Desktop Search beta 3 together with Microsoft Outlook 2007 beta 2:
---------------------------
Desktop Search
---------------------------
Windows Desktop Search has detected that you are using an Outlook profile that is not your default profile. Your Outlook folders can be indexed only when you are using your default profile.
To ensure your Outlook items are indexed, restart Outlook and select your default profile if prompted.
For more information, see Outlook Help.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
The problem with this error message is that it appears when you have only one profile (probably named "Outlook") to connect to your Exchange server, and it is already set to Default.
After numerous reinstalls of Office 2007, Windows Desktop Search 2.6.5 and 3.0, and countless reboots, it suddenly struck me:
Go to the Control Panel, Mail, edit your Outlook-profile (or whatever it is called in your case) and note down the necessary details. Then create a new profile named "Default", put in the same settings as your old profile, and after that delete your original profile. Reboot, then upon startup of Outlook, you'll get the message that it will create a local copy of your mailbox and it will start copying all your mail from the Exchange server again (well, only if you have cached mode enabled of course).
So easy, yet so hard to find :-)
It worked over here, but that doesn't mean it will work everywhere. Do it at your own risk, and don't send your lawyer if it doesn't work out.
